Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I apply?
Applying for your Pension is a two part process. Download and complete the appropriate pension application depending on what local you worked for as an active participant. If you worked under Intermountain Ironworkers AND 606, 184 or Steel Fabricators, you need to print and complete both applications (ex. Intermountain Ironworkers and 606).
What documents do I have to send in with my application?
You will need to provide a copy of your birth certificate. If this is not available, review the other options in Section A of the application. If you are married, you will need to provide your spouse’s birth certificate (or other form in Section A) AND your marriage certificate. You only need to send one set of identifying documents – birth certificates, marriage certificates, disability award letter, etc – with your completed application(s) if you are applying for multiple pension funds.
When will I make my pension election?
After your application and identifying documents have been reviewed, you will receive your election form(s) informing you of the different options available to you based on your work history and marital status. Your pension will not begin until the notarized Election Form packet has been returned to the Trust Fund Office.
What if I worked under another funds jurisdiction in addition to Intermountain Ironworkers?
If you worked under a related plan, please complete Section D of the application and provide as much information as requested. The Pension Office will contact those locals to obtain your hours and credits.
What if I have been deemed disabled?
If you are applying for a Disability Pension, you must be an active employee and have worked 500 hours in this Plan within 24 months of being disabled. For additional questions refer to your Summary Plan Description or contact the Trust Fund Office. If you have applied for benefits but have not received your award letter yet, do not hold up sending in your completed pension application.
